Do I need a water softener?
Depends, most people in the United States have some level of hardness. If you are replacing or having service done to appliances like hot water heaters and coffee makers; fixtures or plumbing due to scale; then you most likely could benefit from a water softener.
My Plumber told me I have hard water.
Plumbers are often the first people to recognize hard water. The scale build up in a hot water tank is the #1 reason for failure (after all, how many moving parts are in a hot water tank?) How do I know I have “Hard Water”?

Your would likely see calcium build up like spots on your glasses, scale around your faucets and hose connections, or even a layer of soap scum around the lip of your tub.
Note: 1 grain of hardness = 0.0001 lbs of rock in a gallon of water.

Scale Build-up
